Appearance: Shalua has orange-colored hair that is pulled up in a high half ponytail and spread out so that it falls down to her shoulders. Her bangs fall to just above her eyes and part of her hair is left down to frame her face. One of her eyes is permanently closed due to the fact that she lost it while working for AVALANCHE. The other eye is a blue-green in color (more blue than green), echoes the turmoil in her heart, and is usually hidden under the lens of her glasses. Underneath the white lab coat that follows her wherever she goes, she wears a maroon-and-black tank top. The right half is black and the left half is maroon. Both halves are lined with white and they connect unevenly in the middle by three gray velcro straps. White straps cross her shoulders to hold it in place. A blue half tank top shows just above the black-and-maroon one, with blue straps criss-crossing across her chest before draping over her shoulders.

Much of her stomach shows between her top and the small skirt she wears. The skirt, like the top is half maroon and half black. It is held together at her left hip with two gray velcro straps. A seemingly random strip of maroon fabric draps from her left side, attached at the bottom of her skirt, to just above her right knee. On the right side, the fabric is clipped to her skirt across her thigh with criss-crossing blue straps. She wears blue close-toed shoes with a strap running from the toe to the strap around her ankle.

Completing the ensemble are her mechanical arm and the WRO nametag attached to her lab coat on the left side. Her mechanical left arm is made of gray metal with three yellow straps on the lower arm and the hand part is covered by a white glove.

Personality: Shalua is a nice and caring person and was always extremely protective of her sister. So when Shelke was taken from her care, after their parents died, Shalua took the loss personally, considering it her fault that her sister had disappeared and dedicating her life to finding the girl again. She's a workaholic, tending to put everything she has into her work. She was a valuable scientist for AVALANCHE and for the WRO, though she doesn't seem to care much about that. She studies things until she runs out of time, not energy, forcing herself to keep going. She's introverted with her history, but is very open with her emotions. While she doesn't talk about why she's feeling something, it's usually pretty obvious what she's feeling. Her biggest wish is to find her sister again and everything she works at is towards that goal. She's also very alert and ready, but she's a bit of a lone wolf, preferring to work on things alone rather than with someone else, though she can work well either way.
Abilities/Weaponry/Strengths: Shalua's only weapon is a small handgun that she keeps in a pocket on the inside of her lab coat. She was never particularly strong, but she's decent enough at and-to-hand fighting as well as using her gun. She never had any materia, and so never used magic in her life, however her physical strength is good enough that even with her mechanical arm she is able to defend herself well without a weapon.

Personality-wise, Shalua is always alert and ready for anything that may happen. She's not someone who will sit back and let other people do all the work or fight alone. She works best on her own, but is good with other people. She is also extremely knowledgeable, especially about science regarding mechanics and biomechanics, and doesn't hesitate to inform those around her if the situation warrants its use.

Weaknesses: Shalua is good at keeping herself together, but it's usually pretty easy to see what she's feeling. Her biggest weakness is her sister and the need to find out if Shelke is okay. She would give anything for her sister, something that could easily be used against her. She also has a tendency to bury herself in her work until her body gives out. She's quick to anger, mainly as that is her defense mechanism. If she's not prepared, she's aware that she won't make it. However, her closed and easy to irritate nature subject her to seeming less than friendly, turning people away at times.

Physically, Shalua is pretty well-balanced, but her left arm would be her weakest point, since she has no feeling left in it and would end up limited without it. It also serves as her life-support system. Her lost left eye makes her blind to that side, so occasionally her sight is less than accurate and someone coming up behind her or to her left could easily overwhelm her if she weren't expecting an attack or ready for one. Being that she isn't insanely strong, she could also be overtaken by a group of normal people, or one powered up person, such as someone with super-human strength like Cloud.

History: Not much is known about Shalua. However, her first appearance is in Before Crisis, where she briefly joined the AVALANCHE team to fight Shin-Ra. Eventually, she decided not to be part of an organization that she saw as twisted and so she left them. Having sustained serious injuries while she was part of the group, she became a mostly constructed human. Several internal injuries were fixed, an eye was lost, and her left arm became a mechanical one. Later on, it's revealed that she's the one who made Barret's gun arm.

Being a very well-respected scientist, she is later recruited by Reeve Tuesti to join the World Regenesis Organization, where she helps figure out what's going on with Deepground during the course of Dirge of Cerberus. She first shows up in the game in the city of Edge, where Reeve has asked her to check up on the mass disappearances. Here, she encounters Vincent for the first time and after pointing guns at each other, they discover they're working for the same person. Apologies are traded and they share a little wondering about the city, having no idea where all the citizens disappeared to. As Shalua is leaving, she mentions being there to search for something and when Vincent asks her what she's looking for, she tells him, "For my... reason to live."

Ten years ago, her sister Shelke was taken from her care by Shin-Ra, and she hasn't seen the girl since. Ten years she's been searching for her sister, without a trace or a clue of where she went.

After Vincent passes out in the middle of the deserted city, Shalua is the one who finds him and brings him back to WRO headquarters. Once he awakens, she's the one who mentions Chaos and Dr. Lucrecia Crescent. They are interrupted by Reeve as the WRO headquarters are attacked by an organization called Deepground. Reeve and Vincent run off and Shalua is left with the data. She turns back to see the security camera feed and notices the transparent outline of a young girl that almost perfectly matches her sister. In complete shock, she heads outside, but on the way, Azul's kick to the entrance rocks the building and she ends up hitting her head on the floor. Blacking out for a few seconds, Shalua awakes in a place that is quite different from the WRO headquarters.
